What size storage unit do you need in Poland? Start with measurements

Published: · SpaceAtlas

Choosing a storage room by the number of bedrooms in your home can be misleading. A furnished studio may contain more bulky items than a larger flat with fitted cupboards. Before comparing unit sizes in Poland, make an inventory and decide whether you need regular access to the things inside.

Measure what cannot be made smaller

Write down the dimensions of sofas, appliances, tables and other large pieces. Measure them after any planned dismantling, not before. Keep screws and fittings in labelled bags attached securely to the relevant furniture. Note fragile surfaces and objects that cannot carry weight. These details affect the arrangement more than a simple count of boxes does.

Distinguish floor area from volume

Square metres describe the floor; cubic metres describe volume. Neither tells you the exact shape of a room. A narrow unit and a square unit can have the same floor area but accommodate furniture differently. Ask for usable internal length, width and height, together with any columns, sloping ceilings or other obstructions that reduce the space you can use.

Check the route into the room

Measure the largest item against the door opening, corridor corners and lift entrance. A unit may be large enough once you are inside but impossible to reach with a rigid wardrobe. Ask whether trolleys are available and whether there is a level route from unloading to the room. Do not rely on a photograph to establish clearance.

Plan access before stacking

Place regularly used items near the entrance and allow an aisle if you need to retrieve individual boxes. Use suitable shelving only if the operator permits it, and respect its load limits. Put heavier boxes lower down and avoid loading delicate objects. Photograph the packed arrangement and keep an inventory elsewhere so you can find things without emptying the entire room.

Confirm the size before committing

Send the operator your inventory and request a viewing or a dimensioned plan. Ask whether changing to a different size is possible, what it costs and whether another room would need to be available. A size recommendation is an estimate, not a promise that every item will fit. Choose the smallest practical space for your actual arrangement, including the access you need.
